Dear Stakeholder Leaders,

In anticipation of President-Elect Obama’s inauguration, there’s been a great deal of frenzy, especially in the media, about some words regular Birth2Work Radio listeners already know. Obama’s candidacy and election introduced phrases like “stakeholder leader” and “community organizer” to the broad public, but a quick survey of the Birth2Work.org activities will point out what those who have been working with Birth2Work for the last ten years will attest, they are not new to us! We are, in fact, taking these first two weeks of the new year to air our back-to-back radio programs that lay out the thinking behind the work that Birth2Work does (today’s program is Part 2), so you, our listeners, can get a full, robust understanding of community stakeholder leadership and how we can help bring it to life all across the country!

A clear, common language is a primary tenet of Birth2Work and success as a stakeholder leader. In today’s newsletter, our Birth2Work team highlights the definitions of terms such as “community,” “leader,” and “stakeholder,” words we use regularly, and in defining them explain what we mean when we use them on this program with different guests, in our white papers, and in our book, The System: Igniting the Soul of Commerce. These definitions are accessible and actionable. As you read through them, take a moment to copy any of them into a response form and let us know how you define them differently. Our listeners are a terrific bunch of folks who want to act in this new political environment with the greatest impact possible, and we suggest starting with a common language. Let’s build a common language around community stakeholder leadership together!
